Old Bear and Friends is a popular series of children's books written by British author and illustrator Jane Hissey. The books became the basis for a Bafta award-winning television series Old Bear Stories. It opened in 1990 and closed in 2005. It operated as a non-profit organization, and received funding from donations, as well as profit from museum tickets, gift shop sales, and Hug Club membership. The show also aired for a short time on the CBC morning children's block in Canada. It also aired in the United States as part of Cartoon Network's Small World as well as ABC in Australia, M-Net, SABC 2 and Bop TV in South Africa, MediaCorp… Notably, the toys are stuffed with plastic pellets ("beans") rather than conventional soft stuffing (PVC and PE), giving Beanie Babies a flexible feel. Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) is an international project, whose aim is to reduce childhood anxiety about medical environments, procedures and professionals.
